If you’re on the look-out for another rom-com flick that isn’t set in the United States, allow me to recommend one that had us laughing in stitches over the weekend. Tres Bodas De Mas centers around a marine biologist who suddenly finds herself invited to three of her exes’ weddings all happening within the span of a month. For someone who is an accomplished career woman, Ruth is quite a pushover when it comes to relationships. She also refuses to assert herself that her last boyfriend used this as an excuse to justify their break-up. Hilarity ensues and unexpected feelings surface when her intern Dani offers to accompany her (they end up going to the first two together) to the weddings as her date.
I rarely swoon over someone in a movie but Martiño Rivas has this believable charm that makes Dani so effective as a romantic lead. He maybe younger than Ruth but he’s emotionally mature and actually looks out for her interests when she’s self-deprecating. Now who can’t help but fall for a guy like that, huh?
Tres Bodas starts off as a bore but it slowly picks up towards the middle of the story. Sure the plot is cliche. But hey, isn’t that what makes romantic movies awesome? The revelation wasn’t even cheesy. Instead, it gave me warm feelings that had me smiling as the end credits rolled.
Now where can I find a real-life Dani?
